There’s a new Android handset in town and this time around it is coming from Acer. The Acer Stream has been officially announced for the UK and now we have some release dates and pricing details for you.

The Stream will be available in stores on August 9, in about two weeks from now, and it will cost you £399. Dubbed as a “the perfect entertainment smartphone” the Stream has little chance of defeating some of the hottest Android smartphones out there but on paper, the device looks very dependable to say the least.

Here’s a full list of specs and features of the Acer Stream for you:

  • 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display
  • 2000:1 contrast
  • HSDPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity
  • Bluetooth
  • Wi-Fi n
  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • Android 2.1 OS (why not Android 2.2, Acer?)
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • 720p HD video recording
  • GPS and geotagging
  • HDMI connectivity
  • Dolby Mobile Sound
  • UPnP technology
  • 2GB of internal Flash memory
  • 8GB memory card included in the package
  • microSD card slot support up to 32GB
  • social networking support
  • a “completely brand new” user interface

And here are the “main benefits” of the phone:

  • Read information straight from the lock screen’s widget;
  • Quickly start favorite applications in one touch;
  • Easily switch applications with the History panel;
  • Customize the phone according to specific needs;
  • Enjoy smooth animations and fine graphics.

The Acer Stream doesn’t sound too bad for an Android smartphone, but there’s not really that much buzz built around it. In fact, we have no idea what UK carriers are going to offer the phone to their customers for subsidized pricing. The Stream is heading straight to Expansys, just like we told you last week, but it’s not going to come on August 3 like we initially heard.

As for customers in other markets enticed by the Acer Stream, they’ll have to wait a while for Acer to make new official announcements.
