Seagate Forecasts Coming of Hybrid Drives

Samsung Bares the Future of Hard Drives Technology With The Potential Coming of Hybrid Drives

Seagate shared recently what it saw from their crystal ball with regards to the future of hard drive technology. While most companies these days are focusing on speed and storage to satisfy consumer demands, no other than Seagate identified hybrid technology as the next feature that will make a difference.

By “Hybrid” technology we are referring to the concept of using flash memory buffers to increase read and write speeds without the need to increase the HDD’s RPM. Seagate actually has one hybrid hard drive already in the form of the 2.5″ Momentus.

The said Momentus HDD is already getting high demand and perhaps this is what the company sees as the potential indicator for the next big thing that may beset hard drive technology.

Of course this may not yet appear in the near future. With the cost of manufacturing SSD drives offering additional costs, the potential coming of hybrid drives may yet offer something better.

Now if only the companies would put their heads together and come up with a trendy hybrid drive then we may have something rolling.
