HP sells a lot of copies of Windows as they’re currently the world’s #1 PC manufacturer. But, HP is breaking party line as one of their executives confirmed on cable network CNBC that they won’t be producing an Windows Phone 7 phones.

HP VP Todd Bradley was doing an interview on CNBC and was asked by their reporter how they can prove to developers that they’re dedicated to webOS when they’re producing Windows Phone 7 (and – as rumored – Android) phones. Bradley quickly corrected him.
We won’t do — will not do a Linux / Android phone. We won’t do a Microsoft phone.
When asked for confirmation that they’ll only be producing webOS smartphones, Bradley reiterated:
For smartphones it does. Our intent is to focus those resources and really make webOS the best OS it can be.
For those that remember iPAQ – the old Compaq brand of smartphone/PDAs that HP inherited when they bought old rival manufacturer Compaq – it may be a bit odd since iPAQ PDAs always shipped with Windows Mobile.
Some have wondered what HP’s intentions are. They spent a lot of money on webOS, and it’s clear that they’re excited about it. We know they’re going to put it on tablets, printers, smartphones – and now computers are rumored. Some tech pundits have even gone so far as to speculate that “HP wants to be Apple with webOS as their Mac OS X/iOS”.
Surely, Microsoft can’t be happy their their former best pal HP isn’t supporting Windows Phone 7.
