Dragon Dictation App For iOS Updated, Now At Version 2.0 [Nuance Communications Rolls Out Dragon Dictation 2.0 For iOS Devices, Now With Auto-Save & Social Network Integration]
I am an iPad user, and I say that almost like I am making a confession. Although it should be something more along the lines of something that you would hear at a meeting, Hi, my name is Robert and I am addicted to the iPad. I use the iPad on a regular basis and play with lots and lots of apps. Many I hate, some I like and some I love.

Granted, nothing surprising there, after all you cannot love every app. But one that I installed from day one and have kept and used since is Dragon Dictation. This app comes courtesy of a company called Nuance Communications and they have just rolled out version 2.0.
And for those not sporting an iPad, the app is universal and also compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch. As for what it does — it allows you to speak into the microphone and have that speech translated to text. Of course, this goes without saying, but when typing anything at length, this can be a real time saver as compared to using the virtual keyboard.
But back to Dragon Dictation 2.0. This version has recently appeared in the App Store, and like the older versions — its still available for free. And as you may have guessed, along with the new version number — we also have several new features.
First and foremost, Dragon Dictation 2.0 is now iOS 4 compatible. But it has also been given multilingual support (with more promised to come) as well as social network integration with Twitter and Facebook.
In terms of the multilingual support, this latest update now means support for US and UK English. As for the future support, German will be coming “later this month.” Otherwise, the app is also now touting an auto-save feature that will be nice for those on the iPhone. As it sounds, the app will auto-save your work should you get interrupted by a phone call.
As for that Twitter and Facebook support, basically you can now speak a status update and have it sent directly to the network of your choice with the simple tap of a button. Of course, the cut, copy and email features are all still included. Another nice perk for iPhone users comes in terms of support for text messaging. Similar to having your status updates sent, you can also dictate and send your message directly to the text message app.
Bottom line, Dragon Dictation works as advertised and is likely to come in handy at some point or another. Granted its not an app that I use daily, but its an app that I cannot imagine deleting from my iPad anytime soon. And with the fact that its free and has decent features added makes it that much nicer.
