AT&T Reports Q2 Quarterly Results, Shows They Should Love The iPhone [AT&T Q2 Results Report: 3.2 Million iPhones Activated Of Which 27% Were New Customers]
AT&T has reported their Q2 quarterly results and one thing seems fairly certain — they should be in love with the iPhone. After all, they have had a record setting quarter in terms of new iPhone activations. Plus a low churn rate.

Lets start with the details on the iPhone, AT&T has reportedly activated 3.2 million iPhones this past quarter. An impressive number by itself, but taking that a step further and we learn that of those 3.2 million, approximately 27 percent were new customers. That tells me that AT&T is most likely pretty interested in keeping that exclusivity going for another year. After all, 27 percent new customers after four years, sounds impressive.
“We continue to see positive signs of growth in almost every customer segment of our business, especially wireless, which speaks to the quality of our execution and our leadership in the industry’s most powerful growth driver — mobile broadband. I am excited by the opportunities ahead.”
AT&T has also added another 2.9 million 3G “integrated devices” on the network, which depending on who you ask, that may or may not be all that great of news for current users. That means AT&T now has a total of 29.7 million, which was an increase of 98.2 percent year over year.
Furthermore, consolidated revenues totaled $30.8 billion which is up $194 million. And as a side note, that $194 million may sound like a large number, and then you learn it actually equates to 0.6 percent. Either way, $194 million is quite a bit of money, but referring to it as less than 1 percent makes it sound insignificant.
Some other little tidbits include that AT&T churn levels were at 1.01 percent, which is down from 1.07 percent and wireless data revenues increased $936 million which is 27.2 percent.
Finally, AT&T also took the time to reconfirm that the iPhone 4 preorder sales were more than 10 times higher than that of the iPhone 3GS. If nothing else, this just goes to show that the next quarter results should once again contain some interesting growth in terms of the iPhone and possibly make for another record making quarter.
