Apple Multi-Touch Trackpad Appears To Be Coming Soon

Apple To Release Magic Trackpad With Multi-Touch For Desktops Soon?

If you’ve multi-touch on a mobile phone, you’ll know it’s pretty cool. Mac OS X and Windows 7 have native support for multi-touch, too, and Apple and some PC manufactures have begun including multi-touch trackpads in new laptops. But – what about your desktop? Apple may have a solution for that (at least on the Mac side). Some new FCC filings may show that Apple is planning to introduce a Bluetooth trackpad for desktops with multi-touch.

Again, this comes from FCC filings, and considering Apple’s knack for keeping FCC filings concealed, we could see this Bluetooth trackpad approved any day now. As the guys at TechCrunch point out, leaked images from last month show what appears to be, pretty simply, a MacBook Pro touchpad as it’s own standalone device.

The FCC filings clearly state the Apple device is a “Bluetooth trackpad”. Since Apple likely wouldn’t release a trackpad for a desktop unless it had a new feature, you should consider it an almost certainty that we’ll see this being a multi-touch trackpad.

As many have pointed out – Apple has the Magic Mouse, which has some multi-touch elements as well, but not all. And it’s not really a big surface area. And it only has one button (zing!). I digress.

Knowing Apple, they’ll likely charge $80 or something for this. According to TechCrunch, Apple trademark filings may call this device the “Magic Trackpad”, “Magic Slate” or “Magic Pad” – all of which sound sort of horrible. I digress again.

Does this desktop multi-touch trackpad do anything for you? Would you purchase it?
