Motorola Droid 2 Rumored To Launch With Android 2.2 [Droid 2 Coming To Verizon, May Have Android 2.2 Froyo Upon Arrival]

We are beginning to see more and more in terms of the Motorola Droid 2 — except the more and more we are seeing is a mix of truth and rumor. But with that, the rumors are looking good and that being the case we remain hopeful.

Of course, as Chris mentioned yesterday, Verizon is currently rumored to have the Droid 2 available as of August 23rd. And as for what we can expect, well, thanks to one lucky individual that was able to spend a few minutes with hands on time — quite a bit.

First and foremost and as you have likely already spied in the above image — the Droid 2 is running Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo. Now lets hope it stays that way for launch if for no other reason that it would be nice to see an Android handset get released with the most recent version of the operating system.

Other details include that the Droid 2 was “noticeably more responsive” as compared to the original Droid. Granted the Droid 2 does have a 1GHz processor so that, along with a newer version of Android makes that a simple explanation. In addition, the keyboard was noted as being “phenomenal” which is perhaps a bigger plus than the handset shipping with Froyo. After all, the software can always be updated, but the keyboard is something that you are stuck with for better or worse. And finally, the overall look and feel was said to be similar to that of the original Motorola Droid.

All said and done — it would appear that the Droid 2 is going to keep the high end Android phone lineup with Verizon going. And that means Verizon will have three top phones with the Droid X, Droid Incredible and the Droid 2. That said, lets hope the inventory of the Droid 2 comes in better than what we have seen thus far with the other two.
