Apple Press Conference On Friday, Presumably To Address Antenna Issue

Apple Declares Emergency Press Conference, Wonder What They'll Talk About

A bit of breaking news here – it’s hitting the web that Apple has announced a press conference to be held Friday at 10am. No word on what they’ll talk about, but I have a feeling it’s about new colors for the Mac Mini. Kidding aside, it’s obviously some reaction to the iPhone 4 antenna onslaught – and it’s nice to see Apple finally come out try to get on top of this thing.

Several tech blogs are reporting that they’re getting invitations to the event, although Apple didn’t announce the content. As previously wrote about here, lots of PR experts said that Apple will be taking a serious brand image hit if they don’t do something more. And many even said that a recall is Apple’s only option.

We doubt that Apple will issue a recall, though some are suggesting that Apple may be giving out free bumper cases. Yesterday, we reported that some are suggested that Apple has already issued a “silent recall” and that those who exchange faulty iPhones at Apple Stores are receiving ‘fixed’ phones. If phones being exchanged at Apple Stores are being replaced with ‘fixed’ models, then Apple could suggest everybody go to their nearest Apple Store and exchange it for a fixed one.

Honestly, it’s hard to imagine Steve Jobs admitting they made any mistake here. He’ll likely give some half-assed apology and offer a full refund or something. Maybe he’ll blame it on Foxconn (“our factories out east messed this up.”) I’d love to be proven wrong, however.

Whatever happens, you know we at TFTS will have coverage and analysis of whatever is said by Apple on Friday.
