Chatroulette Comes To iPhone Thanks to iChatr
Technology enthusiasts have been dreaming for quite some time of the ability to make a video call for a user. Back in the day, that thought was limited only to the movies and the thought of it ever coming out publicly was nothing more than a dream. However, now a days, with services like Skype so readily available, people all over the world are participating in video calls from the comfort of their own home. Not only that, but its become an immensely powerful tool for business people working virtually who need to hold meetings.

On the mobile side of things, however, the technology to video chat is much newer. While the rest of the world has been enjoying it for some time now, the USA only saw the technology readily available with the recent release of handsets such as the HTC EVO 4G and the iPhone 4 from Apple. Both devices feature a front facing camera and the ability to make video calls both from handset-to-handset (thanks to the iPhone’s FaceTime, for example) and from handset-to-Skype (thanks to the third-party release Fring).
As the technology is becoming second nature, users have been discovering new ways to utilize the technology in fun an innovative ways. If you’re a frequent Internet user you’ve undoubtedly heard of ChatRoulette as it made headlines as the new big thing and raked in visitors by the truckload. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a website where webcam-enabled users are randomly matched up with eachother to mingle. If you’re thinking about using it, do so at your own risk as due to some users the service has become sub-X rated.
Well, what happens when you combine services like ChatRoulette with the emerging video chatting mobile market? You get iChatr, a brand new iPhone application that’s just hit the App Store. The iChatr app utilizes the device’s front facing camera to match users randomly with others utilizing the application. Swiping through other users makes it easy to find someone interesting to talk to but make sure you’re within WiFi range as there is currently no support for 3G alone.
