Android 2.2 Finds Its Way Onto T-Mobile G1, MyTouch 3G
When first launched back in 2008 with the T-Mobile G1, Google’s Android mobile operating system effectively took the world by storm introducing them to an open-source mobile platform. Prior to its launch, we had never seen such a thing with open-source operating systems only finding their way onto hardware such as traditional computers and the like. However, during its initial launch, Android was a bit rough around the edges and was arguably not ready to compete against more established mobile operating systems such as Apple’s iOS (then known as iPhone OS) and Research in Motion’s BlackBerry OS.

Luckily, thanks to the top notch team of engineers over at Google, the operating system has quickly improved and has seen many reiterations since it first launched a few years ago. Starting with the first update in 2009, version 1.5 also known as Cupcake, Android updates have been released fast and furiously by Google with its latest version sitting at version 2.2 or Froyo. Later versions of Android added features such as free turn-by-turn GPS navigation that earlier versions hadn’t even dreamed of.
Lucky for us, the later versions of Android that include these highly sought after features have found their way onto a whole slew of devices that have been released as of late. However, manufacturers of earlier Android powered devices such as the T-Mobile G1 have gone on record as saying the devices will not support later version of Android.
Lucky for us, the hacking community is at hand working hard on a solution to this problem and has finally come forth with something to show. Apparently, a group of ROM hackers who call themselves Cyanogen have managed to port the latest version of Android, version 2.2, to the T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile MyTouch 3G successfully, utilizing their CyanogenMod 6.
While some hefty features like Flash 10.1 are left out, the makers of this port say that everything went surprisingly smooth and have publicly released a method for installing Android 2.2 on your own G1 or MyTouch 3G which is included at our source link.

By the way, Cyanogen is one guy, not a team of hackers. Several people contributed to the ROM, but it’s still Cyanogen’s ROM.
