Analyst Says Call of Duty: Black Ops Will More Than 12 Million Copies
Introduced sometime during the mid 1900s, video games have found their way into homes across the world. Thanks to the wide array of software developers mixed with varying demographics of video game players, titles range from causal to hardcore and everywhere in between. In short, there’s something for everybody and the prominence of this generation’s three major consoles, the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, make the search to find an appropriate title even easier.

However, when we’re talking pure sales numbers, there are some video game franchises that stand out above the rest and really make a killing when they hit the market. Some franchises that may come to mind are Guitar Hero, Grand Theft Auto and Halo – two video game series that have seen numerous iterations, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of revenue and an absolutely massive install base.
Although, while franchises like Guitar Hero, Halo and Grand Theft Auto are quite popular, the Call of Duty franchise which is currently on its 6th iteration with Modern Warfare 2, has been deemed the king, putting up numbers to prove that title. The franchise is so popular that it manged to sell nearly 5 million copies during its first day on the market. Add all of that cold hard cash to to revenue Activision receives for the numerous downloadable content packs and it will be come quite clear as to why the series is on its 6th installment.
While Modern Warfare 2 is the latest and most popular Call of Duty title, a new titled developed by Treyarch entitled Call of Duty: Black Ops is just over the horizon with a November 9, 2010 release date. Seeing how its predecessor was so popular, it’s pretty much a given that just due to the fact that it is a Call of Duty game it too will put up some impressive numbers.
It seem that one analyst from Pacific Crest Securities by the name of Evan Wilson has gone so far as to predict that the game will sell over 12 million copies. He then goes on to say that according to his retail sources, pre-order numbers are already higher than those of Modern Warfare 2.
