Fring Gets Apple’s Approval, Allows Video Calls Over 3G For iPhone 4

New iPhone 4 App, Fring, Allows Users To Make Video Conference Calls Over 3G

When cell phones were first invented back in the late 1900s people were surely amazed by their ability to make phone calls from pretty much everywhere a reception was present. Now a days, since technology has improved so rapidly since those times, people are no longer amazed by the elementary features of a cell phone and handset manufacturers are scrambling to cram just about every feature they can into their latest smartphones.

Digital cameras, touchscreens, web browsing and the ability to check your email are all examples of the features these manufacturers have been adding to please the ever growing tech community. However, they have generally been marked off as just supplemental features to a phone’s ability to make voice calls. Sure, texting is a rapidly growing form of communication but that’s about as far from being personal as you can get.

With the launch of new handsets like the HTC EVO 4G and iPhone 4 (among many others) the ability to video chat while on the go has been brought to the masses. Unfortunately, when utlizing Apple’s FaceTime video conferencing software on the iPhone 4 you’re confined to locations where WiFi is available – no 3G calls whatsoever.

Luckily, the immense app development community behind Apple’s iPhone 4 (and iOS, in general) have stepped forward once again to fill the gaps left behind by the company. Fring, in particular, which just got approved for the App Store brings with it the ability to video chat, for free, utilizing AT&T’s 3G network.

How exactly this managed to get into the APp Store when Apple’s own proprietary video chatting software doesn’t allow video calls over 3G is beyond me. However, if you’re looking to get down on the latest craze head over to the App Store and grab Fring now. I mean, it’s free, what do you have to lose?
