Treadway Wearable Motorized Shoes Destroy All Need To Walk
Take that, self-tying shoes from Back to the Future! Seriously, though: one of the competitors in the annual James Dyson Awards this year is the Treadway Wearable Mobility shoe, a shoe with an engine.
They’re not exactly shoes, but rather an overlay for your current shoes. Powered by a pair of lithium-polymer batteries that drive a pair of side-mounted wheels, the Treadways are essentially a kind of powered, two-wheeled roller skate that slips over your shoe. Even better, they can be plugged into any common outlet to charge up.
No word as yet on the device’s range, or pricing or availability as they’re still at the prototype stage and going for the James Dyson Award, but still–for short hops, like around town or down the block, these would probably beat a car or even bicycle all hollow. They’d be so compact you could keep them anywhere you keep your shoes, and you’d even wear them with you when you’re out.
But for those afraid we already weren’t getting enough exercise, these certainly won’t help.
