HTC Droid Incredible Shipping Pushed back to August 3

The HTC Droid Incredible is one of the best Android phones launched by Verizon this year. But unfortunately we can’t call it a bestseller device and I don’t think we’ll ever see it match the Motorola Droid in sales.

The problem with this has-been-cool device is that it’s already outdated. People wanted the Droid Incredible in May and June but then got used to Verizon not having enough stock to meet the demand. And it’s not because the Incredible sold in millions of units but because HTC has a hard time making the phone due to parts shortages.

In the mean time people have discovered the HTC EVO 4G, the new iPhone 4 and they’re waiting for Verizon to launch the Motorola Droid X and Droid 2 this summer. Not to mention that in the mean time Samsung, HTC’s competitor but also its partner when it comes to delivering some of the parts HTC needs to build its smartphones, is hitting the U.S. market, and not only, with the Samsung Galaxy S in four flavors. And it looks like Samsung has enough parts to sustain such a global launch.

These are all great handsets and great alternatives to the HTC Droid Incredible, an Android unicorn, if you ask me. The phone is very hot, but give it a couple of months and people will not want it anymore. Rumors hit the web a few weeks ago saying that the Droid Incredible will be discontinued and I’m afraid that’s where we’re heading. I’ll remind you that the Droid Incredible is a CDMA-only deal so it’s not like anyone else but Verizon can sell it, and I do mean international carriers here. So if Verizon customers won’t want it anymore, who will buy it?

The Droid Incredible appears now on Verizon’s website as shipping on August 3 or later. That means you have to wait at least four weeks to get it when you could be playing with a Motorola Droid X by then instead.

Verizon itself decided to let you opt for the Droid X instead of waiting for the Incredible to arrive so that’s basically the smarter decision here. Unfortunately, for hot Android handsets, the coolness factor disappears very quickly. What was once very impressive, it’s now a has-been device, still a powerful smartphone, but not worth buzzing about.

So long then, Droid Incredible, it has been great knowing you but Android-ville is a tough place to live in. The next star is always waiting around the corner.
