Verizon Offering $25 Gift Card For Delayed Droid Incredible Orders

As we’ve previously covered here at TFTS – the Droid Incredible is a pretty popular phone for Verizon, but they’re having trouble keeping them in stock. Back when the phone was first released, you can blame Samsung for their production of the OLED screen – which isn’t keeping up with demand for the screens. The phone listed as on backorder from several outlets for 2-3 weeks – but Verizon is hoping to fix that.

If you have pre-ordered the phone from a Verizon retail store and were originally promised a release date before June 28th – Verizon will be sending you a nice e-mail saying that it could be delayed another 7 days. But – to appease you, they’re including a $25 gift card – presumably good at Verizon retail stores (I believe you can also use them online to pay for your monthly phone bill).

The Droid Incredible uses these amazing (but hard to produce) OLED screens. Because of demand, we’ve heard reported that HTC is going to sub in “regular” LCD screens from Sony that allegedly look very similar to Samsung’s OLED screens. Actually we’re a bit disappointed in HTC – it’s sort of a mediocre solution.

Here’s what Verizon is mailing to customers who are having their pre-orders pushed back:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent order of the DROID Incredible by HTC. Due to overwhelming demand for this innovative device, we are currently experiencing inventory delays. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to resolve this issue.

If your order shipping date was June 28 or prior, you may experience an additional delay of up to 7 business days. We will send an update with tracking information once your device has been shipped. If you have already received your device, please disregard this notice.

Your satisfaction is important to us, so we’re also sending you a $25 Verizon Wireless gift card which may be redeemed online or at any Verizon Wireless retail store as a way of saying “thank you” for your patience in this matter. No additional action on your part is required – we will send the gift card to the address you provided with your order in the next two weeks.

We don’t often report on ‘good deals’ here at TFTS, but if you’re in the market for a Droid Incredible – then Amazon.com currently has them in stock and is now shipping them. Act fast if you want one! Just yesterday they had them listed as 2-3 week delay. You’ve got to imagine that the impending Droid X is levitating some demand for the earlier phone.
