Motorola XT720 Specs Changed Again

Remember the Motorola Milestone XT720? That was the Europe-only phone that was branded with the Milestone name – what the Droid was called outside the United States – but unlike most Motorola Droid phones, this one isn’t coming to Verizon, and looks to be just for Europe. Unfortunately, Motorola’s developer database regarding the specs for the upcoming phone keep changing.

Engadget reports that the developer page first listed the XT720 as having a 550MHz processor (same as the first Droid/Milestone). Then it was quietly changed to 720MHz, and now it reads “Up to 720MHz”.

I’m sure any Android developer really doesn’t mind the processor changes, but really – what’s with the indecision? What makes it all the more interesting is that the processor listed, the TI OMAP3440 is a 720MHz processor all along. It’s possible that they were going to underclock it (they did something similar with the Droid/Milestone).

Likewise, the amount of system RAM for the device has also switch around. It was first listed at 256MB, then switched to 512MB, then back to 256MB.

The originally listed specs for the Milestone XT720, when it was first reported by Engadget listed it as having a 550MHz processor.

The mysteriously changing specs aside – what do you think about the phone? The “rumor” (as it’s being called) on the lower right seems to be drawing some ire from some on the web.
