Sony Issue Vaio Firmware Update To Fix Vaio Overheating Issues

Sony Issues Safety Warning Concerning 535K Vaio Laptops On Account of a ‘Potential Malfunction of the Internal Temperature Management System'

Sony have now officially issued a safety warning concerning around 535,000 Vaio laptops due to a ‘potential malfunction of the internal temperature management system’ that could result in enough excessive heat to not only result in a ‘deformation of the product’s keyboard or external casing’ but that could also result in a ‘potential burn hazard to consumers’.

The Sony Vaio safety warning focuses on certain units in the VPCF11 and VPCCW2 series Sony Vaio laptops (see below for specific details) and is said to directly concern some 259,000 Vaio laptops in the US, 103,000 in Europe, 120,000 in Asia and a further 52,000 Vaio’s sold in Japan.

Widely being reported as a recall, Sony have in fact released a firmware update that is specifically designed to prevent potential overheating issues should you own any VPCF11 and VPCCW2 series Vaio laptops.

Sony’s notification reads:

Dear Sony customers,

Sony takes pride in the quality of its products. Recently, we became aware of a potential issue affecting certain units within the VPCF11 and VPCCW2 series of notebook PCs.
In rare instances, these notebook computers may overheat due to a potential malfunction of the internal temperature management system, resulting in deformation of the product’s keyboard or external casing, and a potential burn hazard to consumers.

If you have one of the VPCF11 or VPCCW2 series models, Sony recommends that you download and install a firmware update specifically designed to prevent the potential overheating symptom.
