Sony Ericsson Rolls Out Xperia X10 Update, Still Not Android 2.1 [Latest Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Update Improves Speed & Performance, Android 2.1 Update Still Planned For Q3 2010]
Sony Ericsson has begun rolling out an update for the Xperia X10. But before anyone begins cheering — its not Android 2.1 or 2.2. Instead its more of a general fix things type of update which should still be welcomed by X10 users.

As for getting the update, its said to be coming over-the-air, though the roll-out has just started. In fact, according to the breakdown, some may be waiting as long as a few weeks before it arrives.
“This update will be gradually rolled out across our markets over the coming weeks, pending the completion of quality approvals for individual markets and operators.”
In other words, it may not be wise to hold your breath for this one. Still, it should arrive before Android 2.1, which is expected to come in Q3 of this year.
As for what this latest update if fixing, adding or correcting.
“This update focuses on improving the general performance, speed and responsiveness of Xperia X10.”
An example of the speed comes in the form of the camera UI. Personally, that could be addressed with just about any Android device. Otherwise, the update also adds in a new app that will allow users to back up and later restore their settings and information. There will also be a PlayNow app added that will offer access to premium apps and games, though this one was noted as being in “selected markets” with nothing specific as to which those would be. I guess Xperia X10 users may get a surprise with that one.
Finally, like I mentioned earlier in the post, the update is coming over-the-air, but at the same time it will also be available for manual download and update by way of the www.sonyericsson.com/update page. In the end, I would say any performance update is welcomed, but at the same time its not likely that anyone will stop waiting for Android 2.1.
