Samsung Galaxy S Family Of Phones To Get Android 2.2
Everybody and their carrier is getting a Samsung Galaxy S this year. They’re all coming under different names, but they’re all based on the same design and will offer the same hardware inside. Here’s some more good news – they’ll all ship running Android 2.2 Froyo! (see update at bottom)

As we’ve previously discussed – AT&T is getting the Samsung Capativate, T-Mobile is getting the Samsung Vibrant, Verizon is getting the Samsung Fascinate and Sprint is getting the Samsung Epic 4G. They’ll be offering a 1GHz Hummingbird processors (very similar to Apple’s A4 processors – Samsung makes it for Apple, afterall), unprecedented PowerVR mobile graphics (to the tune of 90 million triangles/second, Samsung promises the best mobile graphics ever) and a 4-inch Super OLED screen.
What does Android 2.2 Froyo get you? Flash 10.1 support is the big one. USB and WiFi tethering is another. The Chrome browser in Android has been given a new, faster JavaScript engine, and overall, Android is getting performance boosts, among a ton of smaller upgrades.
No word yet on when we can expect these phones to hit the market. However, it should be soon – the folks at Engadget have received their review unit of the Samsung Epic 4G.
(Edit – Looks like the phones will ship with Android 2.1 and will receive Android 2.2 via an OTA update later)
