Boycott BP Page Erroneously Disabled by Facebook [The Boycott BP Page Was Reportedly Deleted Erroneously by Facebook But Was Later On Reinstated]

Putting up pages on Facebook either for personal or causes is nothing new but when you talk about “erroneously” deleting them for no apparent reason at all, issues are bound to be flying anywhere. And in the case of this page, the Boycott BP page, a page dedicated to shared views on how BP is handling the celebrated oil spill situation.

Serious as it is, Desmond Perkins seems to be the person in focus here. The Boycott BP page drew a record 734,000 fans over Facebook but was reportedly deleted “in error” by Facebook admins. However 9 hours later after the said removal, the page was reinstated drawing various reactions on the actual reason for its “temporary deletion“.

Facebook later on bared that the page was disabled by their automated systems thus removing all content and that the profile was removed “in error“. No further details were shared by the Facebook people for fear that people may consider their systems inaccurate and weaken their effectiveness.

Was it really a systems failure? Did someone influence the removal? Is Facebook showing its flaws? Depending on how you look at it, it looks like Facebook better be careful with delicate issues such as this tragic oil spill situation.
