1&1 Smartpad With Android Unveiled, Expected To Be Available in July [Germany Company 1&1 Shows Off Android Tablet, Will Feature 500MHz ARM 11 CPU, 1GB Storage & Android 1.6]
The Germany company 1&1, who is perhaps better known for their web hosting offerings have unveiled an Android based tablet, which has been dubbed the 1&1 Smartpad.

Sadly though, despite an official announcement being posted on their website we are still left with some missing details. Amongst the missing is the price and most of the specs. Of course, at this time the release information was also pretty general. In fact as of now its stated as July 2010 instead of a specific date.
With that out of the way, lets get into what we can mention. The 1&1 Smartpad is going to be an Android tablet. As for which version — Android 1.6. Though as a little bit of a bonus, there are some plans for Android 2.2. Granted nothing official yet, but 2.2 is planned for September.
Otherwise the 1&1 Smartpad will come touting a 7 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 500MHz ARM 11 processor, 256MB DDR RAM, 1GB internal flash based storage and will ship with a 2GB SD card. One note on the display, its not clear if that will be capacitive or resistive. And for those who have used both, you know that can be a deal breaker.
And in addition to the tablet itself, 1&1 will also be offering some accessories such as a docking station and remote control.
Moving on to the apps, according to the details on this, users can expect to have access to a specialty app store. In other words, users will not be seeing the official Android Market. Bummer.
Other items that we can see from the images appear to be a kickstand, built-in speakers, volume up/down rocker, media card reader and USB port. Of course, that USB port will come in handy for those who want to plug in a 3G modem.
Finally, lets touch back on that price for a moment. Earlier in the post I said it remained a mystery, but that is only half the story. It seems that current 1&1 DSL Doppel-Flat 16.000 customers will be able to get the Smartpad for free. And that will happen in July. Otherwise, the remaining 1&1 customers will also be given the opportunity to purchase, however that price was not revealed.
