Verizon Wireless Not Phasing Out The HTC Droid Incredible

Yesterday we mentioned the latest rumors surrounding the Droid Incredible. And well, at the time those rumors were suggesting that anyone who has a pending order for and Incredible will be able to cancel that order and switch it to a Droid X.

Truth be told, it seems like that is true, at least in part. According to a statement from Verizon;

“The Droid Incredible by HTC, as you know, definitely lives up to its name and is a fantastic device. It has proven to be very, very popular with our customers. Should a customer who has ordered a Droid Incredible decide that the Droid X (or any other device) better meets his/her needs, he/she can take advantage of the Verizon Wireless Worry Free Guarantee and choose the Droid X when it goes on sale July 15. Customers cannot pre-order the Droid X with us.”

With that, its important to note that the Droid X is not available for pre-order — at least direct with Verizon. Still, it can be pre-ordered with Best Buy. But I digress, the pre-order part is key here – you cannot pre-order with Verizon. Ultimately that means users cannot cancel a Droid Incredible order and switch it to a Droid X. At least not yet, but not because Verizon will not let you, but instead because you cannot currently order a Droid X.

That said, once July 15th comes and the Droid X is actually available for purchase you will be able to switch a Droid Incredible to a Droid X and that will come under the Worry Free Guarantee.

In addition to the switching of orders, Verizon has also come forward with a statement proclaiming that the Droid Incredible is not being phased out. This bit is coming by way of the MobileBurn tech blog who have been told by a Verizon rep that “this is not true, is simply a rumor, and that Verizon Wireless is not phasing out the HTC DROID Incredible.”

There you have it, the Droid Incredible will remain available and unable to get at that same time. Yup, try and make sense of that one. And in addition, once the Droid X is available for purchase with Verizon you will be able to do some Worry Free Guarantee switching and get a phone that you can actually purchase and have shipped.

Finally, the Droid Incredible has once again moved forward in shipping time. Yesterday it was July 26th and today it is July 27th.
