Verizon “Rule the Air” TV Campaign Kicks Off with First Commercial [Verizon Rebranding Complete: First “Rule the Air” TV Clip Now Available]
Verizon has decided to rebrand itself and now, instead of calling it Verizon Wireless we’ll simply refer to the number one U.S. carrier as Verizon, since we were doing that anyway for some time now. The company also decided to drop that famous “Can you hear me now?” line from its TV ads and moved to the next level.

“Rule the Air” is the name of the current ad campaign which is part of Verizon’s rebranding. And just like we expected the first new commercial has been quickly released to the masses.
Unlike the somewhat funny “Can you hear me now?” videos the new “Rule the Air” concept seems to go hand in hand with Verizon’s robotic Droid Does approach.
The new commercial stars a Motorola Droid X Android smartphone which is carried around town by a regular Jane and Joe. And they’re playing with their devices without being bothered by all the objects around them that change their shape in order to offer as much coverage as possible. The whole idea is pretty nice and we definitely like the extra special effects which suggest Verizon has some great coverage no matter where you are, in order for you to “Rule the Air.”
But Big Red is also making sure you’re not taking everything for granted as it adds a couple of screen captions to tell you more about what you’re seeing in the video:
- About the Motorola Android device in use:
Screen images simulated. Sequences shortened.
- About Verizon’s network:
Coverage not available everywhere. Network details and coverage maps at vzw.com.
The commercial then ends with the following statement:
[…] the most powerful transmitter is you!
Well we already have our body pounded by lots of waves on a regular daily basis, including cell phone waves, but do we really want to be labeled as transmitters? Is that a health-friendly concept?
Of course Verizon’s point here is clear, its network is so strong that you can communicate with your friends at all times, hence you are the most powerful transmitter. We’ll be on the lookout for more “Rule the Air” ads and we can’t wait to see how others will respond.
