Owners Find HTC EVO 4G Won’t Work After OTA Update [Sprint's Latest OTA Update Renders A Lot Of EVO 4Gs Inoperable, Bricked]
Although the HTC EVO 4G is an awesome Android phone with a big screen, it’s had it’s share of problems. Things are just getting worse for the poor EVO owners, as now the most recent OTA update for the device is causing widespread reports of bricked devices.

Multiple users are reporting that the update will freeze their phone on the ‘Syncing’ icon, and than it will no longer respond, even after a battery pull. This update was supposed to fixed several small bugs and some WiFi issue, but it’s probably done much worse than that.
Part of the problem may be that the phone is not responding during the update. Several user reported on IntoMobile’s post of this story that during the update, the EVO 4G will be unresponsive for 5 minutes. Doing a battery pull during this (as with any firmware update) will brick your phone, no question (I’ve seen similar things happen with BlackBerries and iPhones). So it’s possible that people are causing their own demise here. But still, others report that they didn’t touch their phone for two hours and it’s still ending up bricked.
What makes the issue worse is that the EVO 4G is still in low supply. Users who returned their broken phones to Radio Shack were told “Sorry, we don’t have any” and Sprint customer support said something similar to customers who called in. Fortunately for those who bought their EVO 4G from Best Buy – they seem to have some replacement units on hand.
Any TFTS readers having problems with the most recent update?
