Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo Build in the Wild Already?
The Google Nexus One has been officially updated to Android 2.2 Froyo and we’re now expecting the Motorola Droid and the HTC EVO 4G to be the next devices blessed with the last Android firmware version from Google and its partners.

We already know that the Droid, followed by the Droid X and Droid 2, will get Android 2.2 in July and August and we’ve already seen confirmation messages from Sprint about the upcoming EVO 4G upgrade. The question is who is going to get the official upgrade out there faster? Sprint or Verizon?
It turns out that we have a Froyo 2.2 test build in the wild for the Droid right now so you in case you happen to own one then you should be somewhat excited. Build number FRF84B seems to be the firmware in question and it looks like you can have it installed on your Droid right now, just like Google Nexus One owners were able to install early Froyo versions on their smartphones.
So here’s what you have to do to get FRF84B right now on your Droid:
1) Download the files
Direct Download —–Official Release (FRF84B)
Mirror One —– Official Release (FRF84B)
Mirror Two —– Official Release (FRF84B)2) Place files on the root of your SD
3) Go into your Recovery
4) Clockwork Directions: go to install zip, find the zip on your SD card, and install
SPrecovery Directions: go to install zip, select allow update.zips (deprecated), install update.zip
5) Reboot your phone.
Don’t forget to back everything before you decide to follow the path above. Who knows what might break in the process and we all hate bricked phones, don’t we?
Once you install it, make sure you let us know about how it all works for you and while you do that we’re going to keep an eye out for you for the arrival of the final Froyo version for Droid.

Do you have to root?
Yeah, it needs to be rooted. He forgot to include that when he shamelessly pasted this info from its original source.
Dear Dean,
Normally I’d disregard such comments but today I feel joyful and ready to deal with such nonsense. If by “shamelessly” you mean I have credited them, like we do with all our sources, and also included all their links in the post, and if by “shamelessly” you mean that I have NEVER said I discovered this leaked Froyo and taught everyone how to get it, then you’d be right on both counts. But I do have this gut feeling that tells me you don’t mean that do you?
Shamelessly yours,
Chris
Would this work on a milestone?
