Google Nexus One Froyo Update FRF85 Is Now Official [Nexus One Gets New Android 2.2 Froyo Firmware, This Time It's Officially Official]

Just a couple of days ago some Google Nexus One users were installing the FRF83 Froyo update, which, at the time was believed to be the official Android 2.2 firmware from Google.

It turns out, yet again, that it wasn’t. There’s a new update in town, Android Froyo FRF85 which is the real deal. The new update is available to both AT&T and T-Mobile users and you can finally snatch it. That’s definitely good news as, once Google has rolled out Froyo for its own smartphone, we expect everyone else to follow in the next few weeks.

FRF85 is available as an OTA update for AT&T Google Nexus One users but the same build is now ready to be installed on T-Mobile handsets too. The update will work on various previous software builds as users report updates from EPE54B to FRF85 as well as updates from Android 2.1 build ERE27 to FRF85.

Of course you’ll probably get Froyo as an OTA update so all you will have to do is simply install it, and voila, you will have the official Android 2.2 Froyo running under the hood.

It’s also safe to assume that most Android handsets coming this year are going to run Froyo, either out of the box, or immediately after their official launch while most “old” Android devices won’t make the jump to Google’s latest mobile platform version.

What’s after Froyo? Gingerbread is rumored to be in the works and according to some sources we might see it unveiled by the end of the year. An Android 3.0 (which is believed to be Gingerbread at this point) HTC device is expected to hit T-Mobile later on this year, but we’ll be waiting for confirmation before speculating on such machines.
