Amazon's Kindle App Makes Its Way To Android

Amazon's Kindle Mobile App Hits Android Marketplace, Brings Massive eBook Library To New Market

If you went back in time and told someone that you were capable of carrying over one thousand books in the palm of your hand, what would they say? Well, they would most likely call you crazy in more ways than one. Now a days, as eBook readers become more and more popular it is beginning to seem like carrying around pound and pounds of books is coming obsolete. Sure, some could argue that reading on a digital display adds to eye strain but thanks to e-ink displays that problem has been done away with as the experience is comparable to reading printed text.

However, perhaps you don’t want to shell out the extra cash for such a feature specific product like an eBook reader. Perhaps you already have a mobile phone with a big enough screen that would serve as a fine eBook reader. Well, if you have an iPhone you have had the Kindle application for quite some time giving you access to Amazon.com’s extensive library of eBooks along with Apple’s iBooks but with no matter how high the resolution of the device’s Retina Display may be, it’s still a 3.5-inch screen making for a not so pleasant reading experience.

If, however, you have an Android powered device like the HTC EVO 4G which features a massive 4.3-inch screen you will be happy to hear that Amazon has just released the Kindle for Android application. Just like the iPhone app, Kindle for Android will allow users of Google’s mobile operating system to browse, select and read a plethora of eBooks. And, just like other versions, the Kindle for Android app will save your bookmarks, notes and everything else all while syncing them up with your other devices.

While people most likely aren’t going to be reading novels on their Android devices (mobile phones, anyways) it is great news for the eBook community as this will raise awareness and get eBook software into the hands of more people. Perhaps a paperless world is right around the corner? Let’s hope so.
