Samsung Epic 4G Is Official On Sprint [Galaxy S Pro Is Now Pretty Epic On Sprint, To Be Carrier's Second 4G Phone]
This isn’t much of a surprise after early photos of the Samsung Galaxy S Pro came out with the Sprint 4G branding, but now it’s been officially announced by Sprint that the Samsung Galaxy S pro is coming to Sprint-Nextel as the “Samsung Epic 4G”. It’s similar to the Galaxy S that we’ve seen in Europe, just with a slider keyboard and some slight cosmetic changes.

The tech specs of the device appear to be mostly unchanged from it’s European (and other American) release. For example, it’s still got the Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird processor and the 4-inch Super OLED screen. It’ll come running Android 2.1. Something that we haven’t seen in relation to other variants of the Galaxy S – it can be used as a WiFi hotspot. Just like Sprint’s other 4G phone (HTC EVO 4G), for an extra fee, you can turn your Samsung Epic 4G into a mobile hotspot on the go for your laptop.
Like the other Galaxy S phones, it has a 5-megapixel camera and LED flash. It’ll also be capable of recording 720p video. Samsung actually acknowledges the Galaxy S in their press release, saying:
“Samsung Epic 4G is a powerful member of our Galaxy S smartphone portfolio which offers premium screen, speed and content features,” said Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile.
Good to see that Samsung is acknowledging that all these similarly named Galaxy S phones are actually the same phone – instead of pretending that they’re all different.
We’re pretty sure that any Android fans on Sprint have already grabbed the HTC EVO 4G. Unfortunately for those who haven’t – the Sprint/Samsung press release didn’t provide a release date or any pricing information.
