Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Appears on Amazon Unlocked for $899.99 [Samsung Galaxy S With Android 2.1, 1GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, Super AMOLED Display Appears on Amazon for $899.99 Unlocked]

Samsung, being one of the world’s premier electronics manufacturers, has released a whole slew of handsets to date. While a large majority of their handsets have been feature phones, dumb phones and altogether phones you probably don’t care about, they have yet to release any note worthy smartphones that would help to make Samsung a worthy competitor in the smart phone market. Lucky for them, and Android fans everywhere, the Samsung Galaxy S has been receiving a decent amount of buzz as of late and is known to be hitting T-Mobile as the Samsung Vibrant in the not so distant future.

However, without a solid release date, when exactly consumers will be able to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S is currently unknown. Luckily, if you’re tired of waiting for T-Mobile to announce a release date, you now have an alternative option.

Amazon.com, every one’s favorite online retailer, has just put the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 up for sale, completely unlocked for $899.99. Considering it has T-Mobile 3G compatibility, you would in theory be able to use this phone not only on T-Mobile, but on AT&T as well.

Of course, if you’re going to slap down $899.99 for the device, you’re either going to have to be incredibly impressed by the handset’s specs or just really interested in seeing how well Samsung is looking to compete in the smart phone industry. If you’re not familiar with the specs, let me give you a quick rundown:

- 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display with 800 x 480 resolution
- 1GHz Samsung S5PC110 processor
- 512MB RAM
- 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p HD video recording
- VGA front-facing camera for video conferencing
- Android 2.1 with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface
- 8/16GB internal storage
- microSD slot for up to 32GB of additional storage
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- HSDPA/HSUPA
- WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS

According to the specs, the Samsung Galaxy S is certainly a handset worthy of competition with current market leaders like the HTC EVO 4G and iPhone 4. However, seeing how you’d have to pay $899.99 for the device unlocked, right now, it would probably be a better idea to just wait until it heads to T-Mobile.

Anyone looking to pick the Galaxy S up unlocked or for T-Mobile?
