OnLive Founding Members Invitations Going Out Now

Early Adopters of the OnLive Cloud-based Game Service Are Now Receiving Entry Invitations

While there are countless ways to stream movies online as rentals, the only way to rent a video game is acquiring an actual copy. Sure, you can opt for a service like GameFly and get games delivered straight to your door but the only way to grab them digitally is if you want to pay full price. However, a service emerged quites some time ago called OnLive that gave users the ability to rent games and stream them to their computer without every having to leave your home.

In theory, the service sounds like a godsend but with high requirement (namely a 5Mbps broadband wired connection) many have come to believe that OnLive would be limited to only premier users that actually meet these requiremnets. Although, with commercially available broadband speeds increasing everyday, the chances of OnLive succeeding as a company become higher and higher.

Well, in the past we told you that the Cloud-based game service had gone live for those willing to pay a subscription fee and before that we told you that OnLive would be offering a free year to those who signed up for the service early. Well, it seems that today OnLive has officially begun filling those early sign-ups and has begun sending out invitations. While it was first thought you’d actually have to pay for a year to get a year free, this does not seem true. According to the email we received over here at TFTS headquarters (screen shot above), the first year will be completely free with no purchase necessary with the option for a second year at $4.95 per month. Make note that the early invitations will reportedly only be sent out to the first 25,000 people who signed up for the service early.

Oh, and if you were wondering about the sleek looking OnLive Micro Console, that apparently still won’t ship out until the end of this year.

Expect a full review of the OnLive service quite soon.
