Motorola Droid X Not to Feature Motoblur or Ninjablur?

Motorola Droid X Android Smartphone Said to Come Without Custom Interfaces Motoblur or Ninjablur

Motorola, together with Verizon, Google and Adobe, announced the new Motorola Droid X this week, on June 23, just a day prior to the iPhone 4 shopping spree that followed. The event itself, which we covered thoroughly, was pretty boring as it didn’t bring us any special announcement.

I mean sure, the Droid X was officially introduced and the handset turned quite a few heads but most of us knew what this baby was going to bring to the table. We’re not going to talk about specs again today but we are going to refer to some features, or at least some missing ones.

It looks like the Droid X is going to come without Motoblur or Ninjablur on top, not that this lack of a custom user interface will make it any less appealing. The phone seems to have plenty of Motoblur widgets and UI customizations but the name of Motorola’s new take at custom Android interfaces is not mentioned. Here’s a video showing the Motorola Droid X UI in action which also confirms that Motoblur is not going to be available:

Did Motorola suddenly realize it doesn’t really need a custom UI on Android devices? Or did Verizon specifically want a different, unnamed, custom interface that’s going to be Droid X specific?

A week ago we’ve shown you the Motorola Droid 2 which was seen in the flash at some special NASA fair. The device, also reported to head to Verizon, is said to arrive with Ninjablur on top, also a custom Android UI, although nothing is really official right now

So let’s hear it from you, Android hardcore users! Do you need a custom UI on top of Android? We have HTC Sense, Sony Ericsson’s Timescape and Motorola’s Motoblur among some of the most popular custom user interfaces for Android smartphones. Or would you rather play with a regular Android interface, the kind that’s available on the Google Nexus One?

Moto/ninja blur or not…I’m sold. I tried the evo the battery life even with 4g off sucked a big one.I have the original Droid and previously owned the touch HD, palm pre, and 2 iphones, original and 3g. I can’t stand the control, I’m an IT professional. The iPhone set the bar…no doubt. But I wanted an alternative and Android fit the mold. I remember people with the G1 when I had my iPhone and I laughed. I knew the platform want mature yet. Now, I’m laughing again only this time at the iPhone and the followers who never gave android a chance. 2.0 and above is the only way to fly with Android.

I was skeptical about giving up a keyboard (my Droid) for a Droix x, but the Droid 2 isn’t what I’m looking for. I want the evo screen on quality hardware less an obstrusive overlay (I.e. sense ui). Having used an evo I’m confident the screensize will make up for the lacking keyboard.

Long story short, the Droid X without moto/ninja blur is welcome. If it had the horrid shit I saw on the Devour I wouldn’t even consider it. But Moto hw is way more solid than htc, I will take a few tweaks here and there though I prefer vanilla droid. So Moto if you’re listening I’m doinf my early upgrade, I would love nothing more than a large screen, good battery life, solid hw, and a true android experience with a few non obstrusive tweaks. Though I would get along just fine with vanilla android.

I am going to buy this phone the day it comes out! Can’t wait!

To be honest, the only acceptable custom UI that a manufacturer has made is Sense. But Sense can feel a little hefty, or bloated, at times. No denying the Sense keyboard is better then vanilla’s… but there are a lot of addons to make it the Sense keyboard with default Android.

Default Android is really superb now, and I don’t really think we >need< Sense (and godawful motoblur), but it is eye candy, which is nice to show off that Android can look better then iOS. I personally find default to be the most visually appealing UI of them all, but I'd be willing to root and try some custom ROMs with custom UIs on this phone.

I’m all for vanilla android interface with the option of letting the user play around with the interface if they so choose.

I think that custom widgets and apps are the way to go for stuff like this. Fundamentally changing the OS just because you can is just not a sound idea at this stage in the game. It would be different if the handset manufacturers were versed in the software market, but fact is they aren’t. Heck that’s why they needed Android in the first place. I personally think its great if widgets and other tweaks come with the phone, but not at the expense of a thriving underground dev. community. The more open the phone the more open the community.

I am not too concerned about the specifics of which UI customizations are added to Android and what they are called-I don’t really care for any of them. As far as I am concerned unadulterated, stock android is the way to go. I really enjoy my Incredible and will probably buy an X, but I would kill for a new device to be released with vanilla android. In that regard, I didn’t realize how good I had it with the N1. Having stock android, that device was so much more open, democaratic, and less of a hassle to customize
