Want To Test FaceTime? Apple Will Provide.
Did you buy an iPhone 4 but don’t have any friends? Or perhaps you don’t have any friends with iPhone 4′s? At any rate, Apple’s set up a special number that’ll let you test FaceTime by chatting with an Apple customer service rep. For a good time, just dial 1-888-FACETIME (188832238463). I’d imagine it only works in the United States.

If you dial that number, you’ll be connected to an Apple CSR who will take you through the features of FaceTime and make sure you have it properly configured. A reminder – FaceTime runs on WiFi, not the cellular network (video chat on AT&T – my god!), and rightfully so, Apple’s page reminds any would-be caller to have their WiFi properly configured.
FaceTime seems to be getting fair reviews from those who have iPhone 4′s. While it seems to be technically sound, it suffers from the same problem that all video chat apps have – unless you’re talking to grandma or your kids from a hotel room – you really don’t want to see the person you’re talking to and they don’t want to see you. Nokia’s been putting forward facing cameras on their phones forever, but expect Apple to popularize the feature.
To those of you who have an iPhone 4 – what do you think of it?
