Verizon Wireless Rumors Suggest An Upcoming Name Change [Verizon Rumored To Be Dropping Wireless From Name, Forgetting About The iPhone & Switching Marketing Slogan To "Rule The Air"]

Oh where to begin on this one. First and foremost — this is still in the rumor stage. But that said, it could be an interesting turning point for Verizon Wireless.

Basically, at this point Verizon Wireless stores are expected to all close this Sunday at 4 in the afternoon. Nothing terrible earth shattering here, nonetheless, that was noted as being “unheard of.” Either way, the more interesting part of the story here is what will be happening when they reopen on Monday morning.

Again, this is not official yet, however its being reported that Verizon Wireless will become Verizon. Yup, dropping the whole Wireless portion of the name. Though it seems we are going to be left on our own to speculate why because as of now nothing has been given as for a reason, and by nothing I mean no rumor and no official statement.

In addition, the now famous “can you hear me now” slogan is going with the wireless portion of the name — away. The new slogan is said to be “Verizon, Rule the Air!”

But more interestingly is that they are also going to make it public that they DO NOT want the iPhone 4, well any iPhone for that matter. Instead, as many would likely have already guessed — they are going to focus on Android smartphones. Or more specifically, high end Android smartphones.

Personally, the name could stay or go, Verizon or Verizon Wireless, ehh. The new slogan sounds decent but the best part here is that they do not want the iPhone and that means we can hopefully put that rumor to rest for good. You know, be able to say that Verizon is not getting the iPhone, and just leave it at that.

With that you can expect we here at TFTS will be on the lookout for more details as they come available.
