SD Cards Launch UHS-I Format–Upper Case I Means Speed [The UHS-I Format of SD Memory Card Stands For Higher Speed]
If you’ve ever played the game Warhammer 40000, you’re familiar with the Orkz, a race who is ideologically convinced that painting a vehicle red increases its speed. And with that bizarre segue in place, I introduce you to the SD UHS-I line of memory cards, because, to misquote the Orkz, “onez with I’z go fasta”.
It’s true–seems that the addition of the capital I at least denotes the faster line of memory card from the ordinary. Though it doesn’t mean that painting a capital I on your current card will make it go faster, it does mean that if you want the faster card, you’ll need to look for the capital I.
The capital I, you see, denotes a card with a maximum speed of 104 mb/s. You can see in the picture, though, that there are two different symbols–the one with the additional 1 in the picture is the symbol for “UHS Speed Class 1″, and it’s actually sufficient to support real-time video recording.
No word on pricing or release dates just yet, but I’m sure most everyone is dying for a better memory card.
