Android 2.2 Update Set For Droid & Droid X? [Android Froyo Update for Droid & Droid X Rumoured for July & August Respectively]

According to reports just surfacing it looks like the Motorola Droid and the mighty Motorola Droid X are set to gain an update to Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) in the next couple of months though, as yet, we must stress that the rumour is unsubstantiated.

The news of an apparent up and coming update for the Droid and Droid X comes via Droidforums where a poster cites an unnamed but ‘very reliable source’ who has purportedly confirmed that the Droid will see an update to Froyo sometime in late July whilst the Droid X will see its move to Froyo take place, again via an over-the-air update, sometime towards the end of August – so if you own either Droids, and should the tipster’s source indeed prove reliable, you don’t have long to wait until you can dip into some of that Froyo greatness.

For those that have been patiently awaiting the official release of Android 2.2 “Froyo” for the Motorola Droid, your wait is almost over! We have just received more confirmation that the release is just weeks away. The A-Bomb (Android 2.2) should be dropping sometime in late July. The Motorola Droid X will launch with Android 2.1, however an over-the-air Android 2.2 update is scheduled for late August, almost one month after the launch date.

Of course should we receive any official confirmation concerning the Droid / Droid X Froyo updates, or we have any further sources act to further underpin that Android 2.2 is indeed coming to either or both Droids within a similar timescale you can be sure that we’ll offer you a heads up here.
