On iPhone Day - Microsoft Opens Up A New Store
Today when the flagship Apple Store in Tokyo’s Harajuku district opened at 8am (marking the start of iPhone 4 sales), music played, people claimed, confetti shot down from the building and there was general applause and fanfare. Not to be outdone by Apple, people lined up and cheered for something Microsoft today. That’s right – Microsoft held a grand unveiling of their Microsoft Store in San Diego’s Fashion Valley Mall.

We’ve covered the Microsoft Stores here before. They’re basically very similar to Apple Store, except of being all minimalist and white and black, they’re minimalist with “Zune-like colors”, Earthy browns and yellows. They showcase Microsoft products like Zunes, Xbox 360s, Kins and Windows laptops from Dell and Toshiba.
At the San Diego opening today, Microsoft had skateboarding stars on hand giving autographs and providing a little skating demonstration. They gave away products and tickets to a Demi Lovato concert. Those who arrive on launch day will get special in-store specials and sales.
Here’s a video. The crowd seems to react pretty well to the Microsoft store:
