iPhone 4 Gets Torn Down, Thoroughly Examined

Apple's iPhone 4 Gets a Hardware Teardown, 512MB of RAM Spotted

Now that mobile applications (and mobile phones, in general) are getting so advanced, more technologically advanced hardware is becoming necessary. Back in the day you could do with dumb phones complete with just a few features but now a days with mobile Internet browsing, gaming, and computing in general makes these dumb phones far past obsolete.

Arguably one of the most technologically advanced phones on the market today is Apple’s highly hyped iPhone 4. Coming complete with their A4 Processor (which also appears in the iPad) along with the Retina Display, Apple’s newest handset is certainly a worthy competitor among premium phones.

Well, despite not having an official release date of June 24th, 2010, many lucky folk who got their pre-order in on time have been recieving their devices as early as the 22nd. Reviews have come in fast and furious and everyone is clamouring about the iPhone 4, but does its hardware actually stack up to the words of Steve Jobs during WWDC 10?

Lucky for us, our buds over at iFixit have managed to get their hands on an official iPhone 4 early and have already embarked on their latest project. If you don’t know iFixit, it’s an Internet based company that sells parts for and repairs Apple products. Seeing how the iPhone 4 is an Apple product and being able to fix a phone requires knowing it inside and out, iFixit has proceeded to completely tear the device apart.

Of course, they’ve done it for observatory purposes (not for comedic value) and have noticed some things that may sway the minds of iPhone 4 hardware speculators. Upon removing the outer casing, back panel and more, iFixit has found that the iPhone 4 has the Apple A4 processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM and a 14200 mAh Lithium Polymer battery. As a comparison in terms of RAM, the iPad has just 256MB of memory so the iPhone 4 should be significantly faster than its tablet counterpart.
