Verizon Wireless Removes Droid Eris From Website

Out With The Old & Making Room for The New, Verizon Has Removed The Droid Eris From The Available Device Lineup

I mentioned this ever so briefly in a post that I wrote yesterday, but it seems that it could use some more attention. That said, the Droid Eris has been totally removed from the Verizon Wireless website.

And while some will criticize and/or offer the not quite so accurate ‘good riddance’ — the Droid Eris is actually a pretty capable phone. I can say that because I am still using one on a daily basis. Its also important to point out that the Eris is now officially running Android 2.1, which means its as up to date as compared to majority of the Android devices. Plus, this was only released with Verizon back in November of 2009. Sure, all tech gets old quickly these days, but that is roughly 7 months time.

Coincidentally, the Droid Eris launched the same day as the Motorola Droid, which not only is still around and kicking, but still carrying a $149.99 price tag. Which brings me to my conspiracy theory that Verizon is tightly in bed with Motorola.

If you look at the current Android device lineup from Verizon you will see the HTC Incredible, which we all know is almost endlessly delayed at this point as well as the Motorola Droid, Motorola Devour and the LG Ally.

This theory is also further backed by a recent rumor that displayed an image of what was said to be a closeout list from Verizon — and it included the Droid Eris as well as the Droid Incredible.

Granted, the Incredible is still alive and sort of kicking. But then again, Verizon seems to be pushing the Motorola Droid line. Even going as far as offering an image of the not-so-new Motorola Droid in the “Sign in to My Verizon and get the latest phone” teaser on the Verizon website.

Of course, for those that still want a Droid Eris, there is always third party retailers such as Wirefly and Amazon as well as the always present eBay market. Still, in the end this is most likely just the slightly less than rational thoughts of someone who spends more time than they should messing with mobile phones. Yes, I am referring to myself.
