iOS 4 Crafted iPhone Apps Appear To Offer Better iPad Upscaling

As iOS 4-ready Apps Come Available, This iPad User Begins To Appreciate The Ability To Upscale

As we learned earlier today, Apple now has more than 11,000 apps in the App Store that were made for the iPad. Of course that still leaves many that have not been updated and despite being able to upscale apps on the iPad — they rarely looked good. And in my case, that meant they were rarely used. That said, there had been some recent chatter in regards to how iOS 4 ready apps should be able to upscale better — and in turn look better.

Well, truth be told, I think that is the case. But first things first, this is being based on my unscientific testing. Still, coming from someone who had very very few non-native iPad apps installed on my iPad, that is encouraging.

My testing has come from the one iPhone app that I installed on my iPad on day one and have probably used daily since. That app is Bejeweled 2, which allowed me to play Bejeweled Blitz and complete with my friends and family on Facebook. Anyway, given I have been hearing the chatter as of late, I had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Well, the iOS 4 ready version of Bejeweled 2 has just recently hit the App Store and I stopped working for a few minutes to give it a test run.

With that, like I said, the results are anything but scientific and I had not thought to take a screenshot before I installed the new version. Honestly I was so excited at the possibility of playing with a crisper screen that I just jumped at the chance. And yes, I realize that sounds sad, but I can admit my shortcomings, one of which may be an addition to Bejeweled.

In closing, if you had been in the same shoes as me and avoided using any iPhone apps on your iPad due to the poor upscaling I encourage you to give it a shot when/if your favorite app becomes iOS 4 ready. And if you do, please leave a comment and share your thoughts.

The reason the iOS 4 apps looks better is for the simple fact that it’s resolution is almost the same as the iPad! The new iPhone has almost the same resolution as the iPad. That was a smart move by apple. It unifies all the apps. I’m just not sure if native iPad apps works without a tune up on the iPhone 4.
