Google Nexus One Becomes a Gas Pedal

Geek Creates a Virtual Gas Pedal with the Nexus One with the Help of the Adobe AIR Application

Geeks will always come up the wacky ideas and here is one that should be interesting to check out. While everyone is busy criticizing the Google Nexus One for what it is failing to do, here is another take using the same Google handset for gamers, particularly the ones who love slot car racing.

Apparently Grant Skinner was able to come up with something crazy yet impressive. By making use of the Adobe AIR application, he hooked up his Google Nexus One via LAN connection. A “surface” SWF containing the graphics necessary for the virtual gas pedal accelerator is then sent to the host (Google Nexus One).

The host in turn communicates with the Phidgets motor controller where a motion-like action applied to the Nexus One makes it something pretty close to how a person would “step on the gas“. The setup is good for multiple connections depending on the number of cars your car race track can accommodate.

This plus some other add-ons like LEGO pieces certainly bring another level of fun and gaming for the Google Nexus One owners who have been burdened with issues on the performance of their Google phone.
