EyeTV iPhone App Updated To Version 1.1, Now A Universal App With iPad Support

Elgato has been doing good things in terms of EyeTV as of late. If you remember back to early April you will have remembered that they offered an updated version of their iPhone app that allowed for live television streaming over 3G (in addition to Wi-Fi). And more recently they rolled out the EyeTV HD, which is being billed as the “Ultimate DVR.” That aside, most recently they have announced that their EyeTV app now supports the iPad.

Yup, Elgato is now offering live streaming television to the iPad. And similar to the iPhone, the app will stream over Wi-Fi and 3G connections. Of course, it works similar to the iPhone version because its essentially the same app. In fact, Elgato have just released the iPhone version as a universal app, which comes as a perk for anyone carrying an iPhone and iPad because they can now use the app on both devices without having to make a new purchase.

Basically, the EyeTV app for the iPhone was updated to version 1.1 and that brought support for the iPad. And in addition to streaming, you can also check the program guide as well as remotely schedule recordings. Though, its worth mentioning that if you are on 3G and looking to schedule a recording or check the guide, you will need to set up and configure in advance by using the “My EyeTV” locator app to find your home computer.

As for requirements, the EyeTV app will only work with a Mac running EyeTV version 3.4 as well as using a compatible TV tuner. For those that are looking to stream mostly over 3G, Elgato suggests using the Turbo.264 HD tuner which has “adaptive streaming.”

Otherwise, the EyeTV app for the iPhone and iPad will set you back $4.99, however those who already purchased the app can upgrade to version 1.1 for free.
