Barnes & Noble Unveil Wi-Fi Only Nook, Lower 3G-equipped Nook Pricing & Begin Software Version 1.4 Rollout

Barnes & Noble Nook Pricing; Wi-Fi only For $149, 3G-equipped For $199, Both Currently Available

Good news for potential Barnes & Noble Nook purchasers as there has just been a new model and some new pricing announced. As of this morning Barnes & Noble have announced a Wi-Fi only Nook as well as given the current 3G capable model a price cut. Plus, there is also some good news for current Nook owners as software version 1.4 is now available.

Basically, both models and the new prices are currently available for sale and interested customers will be able to choose between a Wi-Fi only Nook or the 3G capable Nook. In terms of pricing, expect to pay $149 or $199 respectively. And for those keeping track, that is a $60 savings as compared to what the 3G Nook had been selling for. As far as making the purchase, that can be done either by the Barnes & Noble website or the Best Buy website.

Feature, design and size wise everything stays the same on the newly released Wi-Fi only Nook with two exceptions — the new Wi-Fi model does not offer built-in 3G access and weighs in at 11.6 ounces (as compared to 12.1). Instead the connectivity will come in the form of Wi-Fi and/or USB. Otherwise the features were and remain as a 6 inch eInk display, 3.5 inch color touchscreen display, 2GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, built-in speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB connector.

As for the new software update, this will bring the Nook up to version 1.4 and it adds support for free AT&T Wi-Fi access. This update is available for both 3G and Wi-Fi Nook devices and will give users free unlimited access to any AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot here in the US. The update also adds a Go To Page feature which will allow the user to jump to a specific page as well as an “extra extra large” font and some overall performance updates.

Bottom line, the Nook with Wi-Fi is now available and priced at $149, the 3G Nook remains available and is priced at $199 and the software version 1.4 update is currently available for download.

      Gee looks like a $60 price cut on the 3G model to me. $259-$199 + $60 not $50.. a great deal for new buyers…not so great fore me buying mine 3 weeks ago.

      @Geneo56,

      You are entirely correct, a $60 price cut. Thanks for keeping my math in check.

      You may want to give B&N a call as many companies will give a price match in terms of price drops. If nothing else maybe they can give you a book store credit. Cannot hurt to ask.
