Toshiba to Release 128GB NAND Flash Modules
If you go back 10 years and look at mobile handsets, you would be lucky to find a mobile phone with enough internal storage for a few songs. That’s because back then, times were simpler. When it came to cell phones, there were no app stores, no HD videos, no high-resolution pictures and most importantly, no room for any of this.

Flash forward to today and you have hundreds of thousands of extremely tempting mobile applications, tons of high definition videos and images, and more music than you can shake a fist at. Luckily, mobile storage technology has improved allowing some handset manufacturers to cram upwards of 32GB of internal storage into some of the most premiere devices.
However, what happens when all of the content we consume on a daily basis gets a higher level of definition and quality? Well, we’ll run out of storage faster and be unable to keep everything we want to in our pockets. Luckily, just because 32GB of storage on a mobile phone seems like a lot to some, the guys behind all of this technology are showing no signs of slowing.
Toshiba, in particular, has been working hard to push the envelope of how much memory you can cram into these new age smartphones further and further with each passing day. Their latest accomplishment? Fitting 16 8GB NAND modules in addition to one of their controllers into a module thats just 1.4mm tall. If you can’t do the math, that 128 GB of total storage, comparable to some PC hard drives.
This goes to show you that as handset technology improves, the line between portable computing and traditional computing will blurr further and further. Not only are we given the ability to pair our portable devices up with things like Bluetooth keyboards and mouses, but with all of this storage, we’ll soon be able to take every piece of virtual content we possess with us everywhere we go.
I’m excited, are you?
