iPhone Bumper Cases Delayed Until July 16th

Needed More Proof That The iPhone 4 Is Pre-Ordering Well? Even Apple's Own Bumper Cases Are Sold Out

In case you’re doubting that the iPhone 4 has been well-received – here’s further proof. Apple.com now lists the Bumper case as not shipping until July 16th. Apparently, it’s sold out just as fast as the iPhone 4 itself. However, the bumper cases are being offered in difference colors, and some colors are still in stock to be shipped sooner (for now, anyway).

During our live coverage of the iPhone reveal, we mistakenly called the Bumper case a “bunker” case. We’ve actually seen the case before – the infamous lost Gizmodo iPhone fiasco actually was equipped with one of these. At the time, it was suggested by some that the case was some sort of special limited run internal thing to hide the new edges of the iPhone 4 and disguise it as an iPhone 3GS. Nope, just the Apple first-party case.

TUAW is reporting that a similar thing happened with Apple’s own iPad case/stand. According to Steve Jobs during the keynote, their experience with the iPad case led them to produce their own iPhone case. What he meant to say, was probably that they made piles of money with the iPad case and would like to replicate that success, please.

At the time of this posting, the black bumper case is still shipping on June 24th. The others have been delayed, varying from July 2nd to July 16th.
