EPI Life Phone Functions as Cell Phone and Medical Device

The EPI Life Phone Contains an Electrocardiogram That Can Detect Some Heart Issues

There’s an app for just about anything these days, from stargazing to finding restaurants to keeping your children busy. But there aren’t so many apps that can be described as “life or death”, and that’s a fair descriptor for the Epi Life phone.

The Epi Life phone is an actual working cell phone that offers one critical bonus feature–it offers an electrocardiogram feature fully contained in the phone. Just put your fingers on the side of the Epi Life and, not only will the phone run an ECG, but it will relay the results of same to a hospital.

Right now the device only relays to a hospital in Singapore, as it’s currently on display at a trade show there, but if the Epi Life starts making an appearance elsewhere, look for it to relay to more geographically appropriate hospitals.

The device and ten ECG readings a year (no word on what talk time packages are included) are currently selling for $1686 Singaporean, which is about $1200 USD, and between 10000 and 15000 units have already sold, so chances are this will get a wider release at some point for the health-conscious cell phone users out there.
