Sony Surround Sound System Slides Soundbar on PS3
You’d think with the sheer amount of Sony data flooding out of E3, this one wouldn’t have been so well hidden. But it snuck by a whole lot of people–Sony’s putting together an all-in-one soundbar surround sound system exclusively for the PS3.
It’s easy to wonder what a game system is doing with its own specific speaker system, but this one’s a doozy. It’s equivalent to speaker systems found in some entire televisions–two ten watt speakers with a matching fifteen watt subwoofer all located in one simple soundbar.
It’s slated to retail for $199 in the US, the same price in Euros, and just about twenty thousand yen. There’s no HDMI port, oddly enough, but instead offers optical or analog inputs. Several audio formats are covered: Dolby digital, DTS, MPEG-2 AAC and Linear PCM are all handled.
For those wanting something a bit more substantial, units that offer HDMI and a separate subwoofer will also be available at higher prices, but for the serious audio junkie they’ll be all over that anyway.
