HTC Confirms Desire Smartphone Coming To US "In August"

US Cellular Announces Delay On Desire Release, While HTC Confirms Its Coming To "Select Regional Operators In August"

The HTC Desire first showed its face here in the States on a US Cellular rebate form, of course, that release was later confirmed by the carrier by way of Facebook. Since then US Cellular users have remained anxious, well, until the bad news that was delivered (which Kevin covered earlier today) — the HTC Desire launch has been delayed.

But in a nice contrast to the earlier news, HTC has taken to Twitter and made an announcement of their own.

It’s official –HTC Desire is coming to the US via select regional operators in August. Details to follow closer to availability…

Of course, the obvious is there in that HTC did not mention US Cellular, however they are a regional operator here in the US. And assuming we read into things just a little bit, it looks like US Cellular will release the HTC Desire in August. Sure its only June, but an August release would not be that much of a delay.

Either way, one thing is for sure in that it will not be coming to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile as they can hardly be considered a regional carrier. Plus with what AT&T has been know to do in regards to restricting access to non-Market apps I am not sure I would hope to see it come available with them.

Still, just to be full and thorough, according to the official HTC website they have two regional carriers listed for the US — US Cellular and Cellular South. Given that, there is always the possibility that Cellular South will be the lucky winner.

Bottom line, it looks like US Cellular will launch the HTC Desire in August. That said, we are now going to sit back and wait for those promised details because until they are officially announced its all just speculation.
