Apple Official Statement Confirms iPhone 4 Orders Set New Record
We do like to follow up on news items we’ve already published, as regular readers will know. So, having only just posted about iPhone 4 sales apparently outstripping initial orders for the iPhone 3GS by an astonishing ten times, and having then had an official statement from Apple fall into our virtual (information grabbing) laps, we felt we should bring you Apple’s statement to you here.

Here’s Apple’ just released statement which manages to crow and apologise all in a mere 86 words:
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.
So there you have it. Having underestimated the demand for the iPad Apple have now underestimated the demand for the iPhone 4. What a particularly frustrating (for its customers) yet decidedly nice position (for Apple) to have to deal with – and one that I suspect many other hardware manufactures would positively salivate at the thought of being caught out by.
