E3 2010: Golden Eye 007 Exclusively for Wii Gets Announced

Reggie Shows Off Activision's Wii Exclusive GoldenEye 007

Love it or hate it, there’s no questioning the fact that the original GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 was an instant classic. Originally realeased in 1997, GoldenEye has long been regarded as one of the founding fathers of the FPS genre in general. Sure, there were FPS games before it but GoldenEye really took the genre to the next level with is multiplayer mode being regarded as one of the best.

Well, here we are over 10 years later and still no Goldeneye has made its way onto store shelves (virtual or physical). Luckily, some rumors had circulated saying someone would pick the franchise up and reboot it for one of the current generation consoles. However, until now, everyone involved has been generally tight lipped about the topic.

Now, at Nintendo’s pre-E3 keynote, Reggie Fils-Aime did the honors and unveiled the brand new GoldenEye 007, exclusively for the Wii. While details were somewhat slim, we did learn that there will be 8 classic James Bond characters including fan favorites Jaws and Oddjob, in addition to 16 game modes including paintball and melee only in addition to classic modes like team deathmatch.

Game trailers and what not are sure to follow as E3 unfolds but we do know that Activision’s GoldenEye 007 will be released exclusively for the Wii this holiday season.

Oh, and if you were hoping for the Peirce Bronson James Bond to make it into the game you’re going to be disappointed as it looks to be the newer Daniel Craig from James Bond films such as Quantum of Solace.

We’ll keep you posted.
