E3 2010: Crysis 2 To Run In 3D On All Platforms [Crytek Reveals Crysis 2 Will Be In 3D On Consoles, PC, But Can Your 3D TV Run It?]

Although Microsoft already had two media events, E3 doesn’t open the show floor until tomorrow. The big question this year for those of us in the media is “3D or motion control?” as in, which’ll be the bigger story this year. Microsoft and motion control already made impressive splash with Kinect. 3D fires back with Crysis 2, which will be in 3D on all platforms.

Crytek already made some news when they announced that they were developing a Xbox-only game, named “Kingdoms”, but they’re back in the news as their CEO announced at the E3 keynote that Crysis 2, their flagship shooter franchise, will offer 3D gaming on all platforms, including the consoles.

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli promised that the “3D revolution” continues with Crysis 2 and went on:

[The Crytek team strives] to raise the technology bar … The 3D experience represents a quantum leap in interactive entertainment. With all of the same story and action seen in the 2D version of the game, the 3D version adds another dimension of intensity and immersion to the action

EA previously had said that Crysis 2 would be their marquee 3D title (although in a candid interview, EA CEO John Riccitiello said he didn’t think 3D would be a big deal by the end of the year).

Previously, you could use NVIDIA’s 3D View technology to play Crytek’s previous games, Far Cry and Crysis on the PC (although that technology received mediocre to poor reviews). It’s more impressive that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will see 3D Crysis 2, although as our title alludes to, are there enough 3D TVs out there to get anybody excited?
